Aage
M.
screenplay by Simon S. and Martin Lagestee
AAGE M. is crime comedy based on the life of Aage Meinesz,
better known as Aage M., a famous safebreaker in The Netherlands
in the ‘70s.
There was practically no safe he couldn’t break. Using a thermic
lance, a red-hot iron bar that would melt even the thickest
metal, he seized millions. He became very popular with the
public because he never used violence and only robbed big
companies and banks, leaving the ordinary people’s possessions
untouched.
M. was born on June 19, 1942 of good family. When times got
rough financially, he started safebreaking to be able to
continue his exuberant lifestyle. In the end he got caught, but
he managed to escape in 1974, and started a relationship with a
female police officer who even gave him shelter in her own home.
This is where he wrote his book “My nights with the thermic
lance”.
Finally having done his time, in an interview with Dutch tv host
Willem Duys he tells the public all about his former ‘work’, and
promises to break with his criminal past. However, after
gambling away large amounts of money, he picks up the old trade
and spends time in jail every now and then.
Aage died in 1985 at the age of 43. |
